INTERNAL INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO OFFICER'S ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING
The initial
investigation involving Officer Gerald Zito regarding
Wednesday’s incident revealed that Officer Zito was alone in the
training room examining a .22 caliber handgun which he was
considering for purchase to carry off duty. While in the process
of dismantling the firearm, an accidental discharge occurred
subsequently resulting in a gunshot wound to Officer Zito’s
lower abdomen. An internal investigation is underway.
