Case #2009-006894
TWO SUBJECTS
ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH AN INTENDED ARMED ROBBERY
On July 22 at approximately
11:11 PM, Trooper Dungan of the Florida Highway Patrol
observed a suspicious vehicle (maroon Dodge Durango with
Alabama tags) parked along a tree line in a grassy area
adjacent to Wendy’s and McDonald’s restaurants at 1690
Taylor Road. The Alabama tag on the vehicle came back with a
BOLO wanted in the connection with an armed robbery out of
Satellite Beach. The driver, 27 year old Philip Belancsik of
Melbourne, Florida was detained and subsequently arrested by
FHP (See FHP report # FHPD 09OFF059911).
Port Orange Officer Rick Vingara
arrived on scene as Trooper Dungan had the above vehicle
stopped. A witness approached Officer Vingara and advised a
suspicious subject, identified as black male wearing dark
clothing, was observed quickly walking through the closed
Publix parking lot away from the officers location while
looking back over his shoulder at the officer’s location.
As an unmarked FHP vehicle was arriving in the area at this
time, the black male then fled the area running east towards
the Pavilion of Port Orange construction site. A perimeter
was immediately established.
VCSO Lieutenant Hughes located a
black male with dark clothing walking NB in the SB lanes of
I-95 in the area moments later near the wood line and
detained him. This subject was later identified as 19 year
old Sadarion Drayton of Rockledge, Florida. Drayton gave
inconsistent stories as to why he was in the area of
numerous closed businesses as well as the construction site
and was subsequently placed under arrest for Loitering and
Prowling by Officer Vingara of POPD. Both Drayton (arrested
by POPD) and Belancsik (arrested by FHP) were brought to
POPD for processing. Satellite Beach PD detectives responded
and interviewed both subjects.
Both Drayton and Belancsik
admitted they had responded to Port Orange with the intent
of robbing the McDonald’s restaurant. Inside the vehicle was
a replica handgun along with a ski mask and gloves.
Additionally a loaded shotgun was located in the wooded area
between Wendy’s and McDonald’s. Drayton admitted to Port
Orange detectives he intentionally left this weapon in the
woods and fled the area when he observed Trooper Dungan
arrive in the area. Both subjects admitted these were the
same items they used in the Satellite Beach armed Robbery
days earlier (see Satellite Beach PD’s report).
Sadarion Drayton was charged by
POPD with the following charges and transported to VCBJ with
no bond allowed:
Loitering and Prowling
Possession of a short Barreled Shotgun
Conspiracy to commit Armed Robbery
Further investigation on these
subjects continues.
