                                         7-YEAR-OLD BOY SERIOUSLY INJURED

On Thursday September 10, 2009 at approximately 6:47 PM, Port Orange Police and Fire Rescue Departments responded to the 1900 Block of Cove Point Road in Port Orange concerning an injured juvenile. Once on scene, it was learned that twin 7-year-old boys were playing in a nearby vacant lot hitting plastic golf balls with a metal golf club. As the children were hitting the plastic golf balls, one of the boys was accidentally struck in the head with the golf club. As the injured child ran towards his home, he fell onto the sidewalk where a neighbor ran to his aid and called 9-1-1. The juvenile was transported to Halifax Medical Center Daytona Beach via EVAC ambulance and was subsequently transferred to Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville where the juvenile is listed in critical condition.
