Florida Crime Prevention Association Announces
Crime Prevention Officer of the Year
The Florida Crime Prevention Association Vice President,
David Schupp, announced that Officer David Miller of the
Port Orange Police Department has been named Florida’s Crime
Prevention Officer of the Year.
Officer David Miller was recognized for this outstanding
achievement on October 22nd, 2009 at the 40th annual
statewide Florida Crime Prevention Association Awards
Ceremony held in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Officer Miller’s
innovative programs and initiatives have proven to be
invaluable by reaching out to our community creating
partnerships of assistance, interaction and cooperation. In
June of this year, Officer Miller’s “Wanderer’s Assist”
bracelet identification program won the coveted Rocky
Pomerance Excellence in policing award from the Florida
Police Chief’s Association. Officer David Miller is
considered to be a respected professional who is dedicated
to the betterment of the crime prevention profession.

duty, responsibility and long lasting prevention strategies
reflect well upon crime prevention in our community."
Officer David Miller served as a member of the Nashville,
Tennessee Police Department for 28 years until his
retirement in 2001. He began a second career with the Port
Orange Police Department as a Patrol Officer and eventually
transferred to the newly formed Crime Prevention Unit
created by Police Chief Gerald M. Monahan, Jr., in 2005.
Officer David Miller currently serves as the crime
prevention officer for the police department and is
certified as a Crime Prevention Practitioner by the Office
of the Attorney General. He recently served as President of
the Volusia Crime Prevention Association for three
consecutive years.
