POLICE
ARREST CARJACKING SUSPECT
On
December 18, 2009 at approximately 10:55 am a 76 year
old male was sitting in the driver’s side area of his
vehicle in the Suncoast Imaging business parking lot
located at 1680 Dunlawton Avenue in Port Orange. A black
male suspect approached the vehicle and opened the
driver’s door, and stated “I’ve got a gun.“ The suspect
told the victim to move over to the passenger side, the
suspect then punched the victim in the face. The victim
was able to escape from the passenger side door, at
which time the suspect fled the area in the victim’s
2004, white Mitsubishi Outlander vehicle. The suspect
was described as being in his 30’s to 40’s,
approximately 6-0, 200 lbs, with a close shaven beard,
wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and dark
sunglasses.
A description of the vehicle
and suspect was immediately broadcast to area agencies.
A short time later the Daytona Beach Police Department
stopped the stolen vehicle at North Street and Seagrave
Avenue in their city. Port Orange Police Detectives
responded to the scene where the suspect was positively
identified and subsequently arrested
Lawrence Singletary
II, 40, 420 So. Myrtle Avenue, New Smyrna Beach. A black
plastic handgun was recovered, along with a dark colored
hooded sweatshirt and dark sunglasses. The vehicle was
returned to the victim without any damage.
The Daytona Beach Police
Department charged the suspect with Driving with a
Suspended License. The Port Orange Police Department
arrested the suspect for Armed Carjacking, Armed
Robbery, Battery on a Person over 65, and Grand Theft
Auto. The total bond amount is $60,500.00.
