POLICE ARREST CARJACKING SUSPECT

On December 18, 2009 at approximately 10:55 am a 76 year old male was sitting in the driver’s side area of his vehicle in the Suncoast Imaging business parking lot located at 1680 Dunlawton Avenue in Port Orange. A black male suspect approached the vehicle and opened the driver’s door, and stated “I’ve got a gun.“ The suspect told the victim to move over to the passenger side, the suspect then punched the victim in the face. The victim was able to escape from the passenger side door, at which time the suspect fled the area in the victim’s 2004, white Mitsubishi Outlander vehicle. The suspect was described as being in his 30’s to 40’s, approximately 6-0, 200 lbs, with a close shaven beard, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and dark sunglasses.

A description of the vehicle and suspect was immediately broadcast to area agencies. A short time later the Daytona Beach Police Department stopped the stolen vehicle at North Street and Seagrave Avenue in their city. Port Orange Police Detectives responded to the scene where the suspect was positively identified and subsequently arrested Lawrence Singletary II, 40, 420 So. Myrtle Avenue, New Smyrna Beach. A black plastic handgun was recovered, along with a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and dark sunglasses. The vehicle was returned to the victim without any damage.

The Daytona Beach Police Department charged the suspect with Driving with a Suspended License. The Port Orange Police Department arrested the suspect for Armed Carjacking, Armed Robbery, Battery on a Person over 65, and Grand Theft Auto. The total bond amount is $60,500.00.
