POLICE ASSIST IN ARREST OF NEW SMYRNA BEACH CARJACKING SUSPECTS

A BOLO (be on the lookout) was broadcast on this date at approximately 1338 hours, concerning an armed car-jacking that occurred in the jurisdiction of New Smyrna Beach involving two black male suspects. Several minutes later Port Orange Officer Warren Carman spotted a vehicle matching the description of the NSB incident traveling at a high rate of speed NB on Williamson Blvd then turning east onto Willow Run Blvd. As Officer Carman turned around to investigate, the vehicle subsequently turned south on Tracy Drive where it dead ends. Residents in the area observed two black male subjects bail out of the vehicle and jump the fence leading towards the Hawthorne Village Apartment Complex located on Yorktown Blvd.

VCSO Air One, which was heading to the initial NSB car-jacking incident location to assist, spotted two black subjects running towards the Hawthorne Village Club House/Office. One employee working in the Club House observed two black males enter the club house and walk towards the restrooms where they were talking on cell phones acting suspicious. The employee left the club house and contacted police. Immediately Port Orange officers along with VCSO deputies set up a perimeter around the clubhouse based on the above information. Attempts to contact the subjects via a PA system and calling the clubhouse were negative. At approximately 1444 hours, the subjects subsequently walked out the front door and were taken into custody without incident.

The subjects were turned over to NSB authorities for the incident occurring in their jurisdiction. NSB investigators also responded and took possession of the abandoned vehicle on Tracy Drive.

Additional charges on the subjects with Port Orange PD are forthcoming.
