                                           VEHICLE CRASHES INTO LOCAL BUSINESS

Early this morning at approximately 12:30 am Port Orange Police and Fire Departments responded to the 3900 block of Ridgewood Avenue regarding a vehicle accident. Initial investigation indicates a vehicle driving NB on Ridgewood Avenue ran the red light at Dunlawton Avenue and struck a SB vehicle attempting to turn EB towards the Port Orange Bridge. This impact caused the NB vehicle to lose control and collide into the building at 3921 Ridgewood Avenue. The driver of the SB vehicle turning east was not injured. The driver of the NB vehicle was transported to Halifax Hospital via VCSO air one with critical injuries. His name is being withheld pending notification of his family. Port Orange Traffic Homicide Investigators are continuing with the investigation. 

Update 03/29/10 - 2:30 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the building is Charles M. Felton of Port Orange born in 1968. Felton is still listed in critical condition at Halifax Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
