POLICE DEPARTMENT DESIGNATED A CALEA FLAGSHIP AGENCY
The Port
Orange Police Department has been designated a CALEA
Flagship agency by the Commission on Accreditation for
Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). On March 27th,
2010 Police Chief Gerald M. Monahan, Jr., and
accreditation manager Officer David Burns accepted this
esteemed award at the annual CALEA awards conference in
Dallas, Texas. In December 2009 an assessment team was
onsite at the police department for three days to review
all operations and policies verifying compliance with
CALEA standards.
The
Flagship Agency status means the Port Orange Police
Department continually demonstrates excellence in the
commitment to the CALEA accreditation process and a
willingness to share with others its accreditation
success. Additionally the police department’s
compliance, policy development, file maintenance and
other issues relating to the overall accreditation
process was excellent. While this was the second
National re-accreditation award for the Port Orange
Police Department since 2004, this was the first year
the police department was eligible to receive Flagship
status. Additionally the Port Orange Police Department
is the first municipal police department in the county
to receive this Flagship Agency designation.
