FIREFIGHTER ARRESTED FOR STEALING PAIN MEDICATIONS
On
May 17, 2010 the Port Orange Police Department was
contacted by homeowner Barbara May, she filed a report
after it was learned that her sons prescribed medication
had been stolen from their residence. Barbara May
advised that she needed medical assistance on May 14,
2010 for her 37 year old son thus she had Port Orange
Fire Rescue Engine # 71 respond. A subsequent
investigation revealed that Fireman Michael Michaud had
visited the residence off duty in his red Jeep under the
guise of completing an inventory of prescription
medication, when in fact he did steal them.
The Criminal
Investigation Division uncovered that Fireman Michael
Michaud did engage in a scheme to defraud multiple Port
Orange residents. This scheme consisted of an ongoing
systematic course of conduct in order to obtain
prescription medications under false and fraudulent
pretenses, representations, of future acts. Fireman
Michael Michaud perpetrated these crimes in order to
obtain prescription medication for his own use and
benefit.
On
May 19, 2010 Port Orange Detectives obtained a search
warrant for Fireman Michael Michaud’s residence. During
the search over 12,000 prescription pills were
recovered, none of which were prescribed to Fireman
Michael Michaud. A large portion of these seized
prescription pills were prescribed to a deceased
person.
On
May 24, 2010 Detective Sergeant David Meyer obtained
arrest warrants against Fireman Michael Michaud for
Burglary of a Residence with a bond of $ 25,000.00 and
Scheme to Defraud with a bond of $25,000.00. He was
subsequently arrested at 12:15 pm at 1005 City Center
Circle in Port Orange.
Anyone with further information is requested to contact
Detective Sergeant David Meyer at (386) 506-5882.
