The meeting of the West Volusia Community Traffic Safety Team meeting was called to order at 8:40 am by Chairman John Izzo.

Chairman John Izzo asked for the members to review the minutes to see if there were any questions and/or corrections that needed to be made. A motion was made and seconded to approve the meeting minutes of November 14, 2000. The motion passed unanimously.

At this point Chairman John Izzo moved the discussion to the Problems and Solutions report.

There were no new problems to discuss.

Chairman Izzo mentioned there were 77 fatalities to date compared to 92 for 1999.

Jon Cheney announced Traffic Engineering has hired a new crash statistics employee.

Tony Nosse stated he is still having a problem printing the Match crash program output.

Reshma Chandnani and Glenn Kerns from the City of Deltona were introduced.

NEW BUSINESS:

Tony Nosse discussed an I-95 report on the FLA Today web site regarding median crashes that led to the installation of a barrier. Harold Briley mentioned there were 3 crashes on I-95 in Volusia County within a 2 hour period. Tony stated guardrail was installed on I-4 in Tampa to alleviate median crashes.

There was discussion regarding an article in the Daytona Beach News Journal relating to high crash/dangerous intersections in Volusia County. Nova Rd./ISB was at the top of the list.

Tony discussed the FDOT newsletter. Red Light running (RLR) crashes were discussed. RLR cameras can be installed but clarity is not very good. There was a 40% reduction in RLR in Oxnod, California at all locations as a result of the cameras.

Mike Matz, the FDOT District 5 Law Enforcement Liaison will be leaving effective December 7, 2000.

Jon Cheney requested a letter of support from the CTST to fund safety projects. The request was presented as a motion and passed by unanimous vote.

Reshma Chandnani stated sidewalks are one of the City of Deltona's highest priorities. Tony Nosse stated sidewalks are not generally funded but they will look at locations where safety is a factor. John Izzo and Chip Kent will provide Reshma with hazardous locations.

Jon Cheney stated the FDOT has mailed out 2 surveys. One is an FSU survey to rank the FDOT. Are they doing a satisfactory job?

The effectiveness of rumble strips was discussed. Vibra lines were included in the US 17/92 project.

Garry Lester stated the SR 472 Project will be completed by 1/20/01. He also stated the Alabama Ave./US 17-92 Joint Participation Agreement has been expedited.
