| Welcome to the ECRRT PD&E Study
website!
Volusia County, in conjunction with
Brevard County and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), has
conducted a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study for the
proposed multi-use trail known as the East Central Regional Rail Trail (ECRRT).
The project limits are from State Road 415 near Enterprise (Volusia
County) to Canaveral Avenue in Titusville (Brevard County), as well as the
Edgewater segment from Maytown Spur Road to Dale Street in Edgewater
(Volusia County). The objective of the study is to develop alignment and
design alternatives for the proposed multi-use trail. The proposed ECRRT
uses include cycling, hiking, running, skating, wildlife viewing and
equestrian in appropriate areas.

Study documentation
A Preliminary Engineering Report has been prepared to document the various
activities and research that occurred throughout this study. The report
includes data collection and analysis of the developed and rural
communities, environmental resources, existing trail systems, and future
development and redevelopment plans. Detailed maps of the trail corridor - including the location of the proposed multi-use trail, trail pavilions and
trailheads, bridges, and associated trail features - also have been prepared.
Once the documentation is approved and accepted by Volusia and Brevard
counties and the Florida Department of Transportation, the report and maps will be available for public review.
Second public workshops held
The second series of public information workshops have been
held.
- The first
workshop was held in Titusville on Sept. 21,
2009.
- The second
workshop was held in Osteen on Sept.
22, 2009.
- The third
workshop was held in New Smyrna Beach on Sept. 24, 2009.

Background
ECRRT is the longest abandoned rail line ever purchased in
Florida. The corridor was purchased by the State of Florida
Office of Greenways and Trails and leased to Volusia and
Brevard counties for development and maintenance. The
46-plus mile corridor runs from State Road 415 to
Edgewater and Titusville. This corridor will become part of
Volusia County’s Showcase Multi-Use Trails network and part
of the proposed 230-mile “St. Johns River to the Sea”
Regional Trail System.
Plans to construct the trail for bicycling and wheelchair
use will begin in Enterprise. The first segment to be
constructed will run from the western terminus at Providence
Boulevard, accessed through the Green Spring Park Trailhead
in Enterprise, to the Osteen Community Center just east of
State Road 415. This portion is outside the PD&E study
limits.
