Librarian portrays Maria Gracia Dura Bin

Ruth McCormack will portray Maria Gracia Dura Bin, wife of Dr. Andrew Turnbull, during a free performance at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway.

McCormack, a retired children’s librarian, will explain how Gracia Dura Bin faced the dangers of the New Smyrnea Colony in the late 18th century and managed the affairs of the settlement when her husband was away.

Dr. Turnbull named the colony after his wife’s birthplace in Smyrna, Ottoman Empire.
