Two Volusia County cities will offer free Skywarn basic spotter training classes in cooperation with the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
The City of New Smyrna Beach will offer a class from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Brannon Center, 105 S. Riverside Drive, New Smyrna Beach.
The City of Deltona will offer a class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the city commission chambers, 2345 Providence Blvd., Deltona.
Skywarn training is geared toward people interested in public safety and communications during extreme weather events. A program developed by National Weather Service meteorologists, Skywarn consists of trained weather spotters who report severe and hazardous weather to help in the weather warning process.
