Wildlife Fest

Event Date(s)

Begins: November 10, 2018 10:00 am
Ends: November 10, 2018 3:00 pm

Celebrate Volusia County’s native animals during Wildlife Fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Marine Science Center, 100 Lighthouse Drive, Ponce Inlet.

Attendees can meet glove-trained birds of prey, observe sea turtles undergoing lifesaving rehabilitation, and visit booths staffed by nature groups and crafters. The festival will also feature music, children’s activities and food vendors.

Animal rehabilitation staff will explain how they care for injured birds and sea turtles and offer tips to help conserve wildlife habitats. Children can buy or bring a stuffed animal and ask rehab staff to check it out for “injuries” at the bald eagle triage tent. There will also be a shark conservation station and presentations about Volusia County wildlife and artificial reef program.

Admission to the Marine Science Center will be free all day.

Since opening in 2002, the Marine Science Center has cared for more than 21,000 sea turtles and more than 1,400 gopher tortoises, freshwater turtles and snakes. The Mary Keller Seabird Rehabilitation Facility at the Marine Science Center has received more than 16,000 birds since opening in 2004.

Wildlife Fest is sponsored by Volusia County Government; the Town of Ponce Inlet; Alexis Lenssen, CFP, Raymond James; Kalin Home Furnishings; and the Friends of the Marine Science Center.
