Green building workshop

Event Date(s)

Begins: November 14, 2018 6:30 pm
Ends: November 14, 2018 8:00 pm

Learn about green building practices during a Low-Impact Development Workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Lyonia Environmental Center, 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona.

Green, or sustainable, buildings reduce the impact we have on our natural environment. Whether building or retrofitting a home or commercial property, green buildings conserve water and energy, reduce waste, and use building materials that are healthier for the occupants. The return on investing in green building includes reducing your operation, utilities and maintenance costs.

Join presenters as they explain green building practices, costs and benefits. Learn how green building relates to low-impact development, which is an approach to land development and redevelopment that works with nature to manage stormwater as close to its source as possible.

The following speakers will address green infrastructure projects in practice:

  • C.J. Davila, executive director of the Florida Green Building Coalition
  • Katrina Locke, sustainability and natural resources director for Volusia County
  • Ralph Locke, president of Environmental Construction & Consultin

After the presentations, speakers will take part in a panel Q-and-A.

The free workshop is coordinated by Green Volusia, a county initiative to provide information about environmentally responsible practices and encourage stewardship and conservation of natural resources.

Reservations are not required. For more information, call Environmental Management at 386-736-5927.
