War expert to discuss Battle of Verdun

World War I expert Dr. Gaetano Cavallaro will discuss the Battle of Verdun at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St., Ormond Beach.

The 300-day battle in northeastern France was the longest and bloodiest battle of World War I, causing more than 300,000 deaths.

The speaker will also cover the mutinies that took place in the French, British, Italian, Russian and German armies during the conflict.

Cavallaro, an Ormond Beach resident, is a retired medical doctor and pharmacist. He has lectured on World War I in three languages on three continents: Australia, North America and Europe.
