Representatives from Volusia County’s Public Works Department are conducting four public meetings around the county for public input on the county’s proposed list of projects for road, water quality, stormwater and other transportation infrastructure improvements. These proposed projects will be funded using revenue generated from the half-cent sales tax if approved by Volusia County voters on May 21.
The meetings will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on these dates:

The Volusia County Council approved Ordinance 2019-4 on Feb. 5, levying upon voter approval a half-cent local infrastructure sales tax for 20 years for roads, sidewalks, bridges, water quality, and stormwater and flood control. The proceeds of the tax would be distributed to the county and municipalities according to a statutory formula based on population.
The proposed ordinance establishes a citizens advisory review committee to review whether proposed uses of proceeds are among those authorized and whether expenditures matched the proposed use. The committee would consist of 17 members, 16 of whom would be nominated by a city and appointed by the County Council. The County Council would appoint the remaining member, who could live in a city or the unincorporated area. The members would have four-year terms, but serve at the will of the County Council.
The ordinance will become effective only if approved by a majority of county electors in a referendum special election to be conducted on May 21.
