Birds of the beach

David Baker will share his knowledge of the birds that inhabit Florida beaches at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at DeBary Hall Historic Site, 198 Sunrise Blvd. He’ll also offer identification tips and discuss bird behavior and the best way to photograph them.

Dr. Baker, who holds degrees from Lafayette College and Columbia University, taught earth and environmental science at the high school and college levels before his retirement in 2001. He continues to lecture and leads weekly birding outings as a volunteer for the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach.

His free presentation is part of the Natural World Series being offered at DeBary Hall.

DeBary Hall Historic Site, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is owned by the state and managed by the county’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Division. Tours of the 1871 hunting lodge are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission prices are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for children ages 3 to 12, and free for children 2 and younger.
