Volusia County employees Megan Martin and Chad Macfie will discuss human impacts on the Indian River Lagoon at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St.
Their presentation, “From Shrimp to Sharks: Nutrient Pollution’s Impact on the Indian River Lagoon,” will address the effects of lawn fertilizer and septic systems on the estuary’s food chain and water quality. The estuary stretches 156 miles from Ponce Inlet to Jupiter Inlet and is home to 4,000 species of plants and animals.
Martin is the county’s Be Floridian Now program coordinator, and Macfie manages the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet.
