Snakes of Central Florida

Event Date(s)

Begins: October 13, 2018 1:00 pm
Ends: October 13, 2018 2:30 pm

Snakes are probably the most misunderstood group of animals in the world, inciting fear, loathing and occasionally affection. In fact, many of them are harmless and beneficial to humans because they keep pests, such as rats and mice, in check.

Local author Marcia Meara will present a slide show featuring many of Central Florida’s 35 native snake species at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at DeBary Hall Historic Site, 198 Sunrise Blvd., DeBary. She will also explain how to identify snakes and point out the few you should never handle.

This is the fifth installment of a six-part series titled Central Florida’s Fabulous Wildlife. After the presentation, Meara will answer questions and sign copies of her books.

Reservations are not required for the free presentation. For more information, contact Tracy Mestre at 386-668-3840 or tmestre@volusia.org.
