Volusia County residents who live in the DeLeon Springs, Gemini Springs and Blue Spring areas and have conventional septic tanks can take advantage of a new incentive program offered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
The incentive program, developed to improve water quality and protect Florida’s springs, encourages the enhancement of conventional septic systems by adding advanced features to reduce nitrogen pollution.
This program is designed to offset homeowner costs by providing certified installers and licensed plumbers with up to $10,000 after the installation of enhanced nitrogen-reducing features to existing septic systems.
The installers and plumbers can apply for the incentive and then pass the savings on to the homeowner. To be eligible, work must be pre-approved by the DEP and inspected by the Florida Department of Health.
The incentives are available in “priority focus areas” of nine counties, including Volusia County. The priority focus areas in Volusia County include the DeLeon Springs area and the Blue Spring Springshed.
Up to 200,000 homeowners in the nine counties may be eligible for the rebates, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
