Celebrate ‘Earthsea’ on the beach

Posted On: February 4, 2019

In the fantasy novel “A Wizard of Earthsea,” the townfolk and masters celebrate the Moon’s Night and Long Dance with drums, dancing and songs.

The Volusia County Public Library will provide a local rendition of that event with a fire pit and gathering on the beach from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at 27th Avenue Park, 3681 S. Atlantic Ave., New Smyrna Beach.

Library staff will welcome guests, and 3rd Wheel Drummers will provide rhythmic music. Bring your chairs and gather around a fire pit to roast marshmallows and make s’mores.

The free event is part of the Volusia County Public Library's NEA Big Read, a six-week celebration of “A Wizard of Earthsea,” a 1968 fantasy novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. The NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

Reservations are not required. For more information, call the Volusia County Public Library at 386-248-1745.
