Prescribed burn planned at Blue Spring State Park

Posted On: April 16, 2019

Weather permitting, Blue Spring State Park staff will conduct a 12-acre prescribed burn on Wednesday, April 17. This activity is authorized by the Florida Forest Service.

The prescribed burn will cause partial closure of the Spring-to-Spring Trail because the area is inside the park’s boundary and directly on the trail section that leads from Lake Beresford Park to Blue Spring State Park.

Park staff will close the trail section by closing the trail gates and posting hazard signage notifying the public that the trail is closed due to a prescribed burn.

Nearby residents can expect to see heavy smoke and fire vehicles in the area.

The burn is being done to eliminate dry and overgrown vegetation, reduce the risk of wildfires, restore habitat for the Florida scrub jay, and increase public and firefighter safety.
