Barbara Girtman is the Vice Chair and District 1 representative on the Volusia County Council. Her district includes the incorporated areas of DeLand, Orange City, DeBary, Lake Helen and Pierson; and the unincorporated areas of Astor, DeLeon Springs, Emporia, Seville, Barberville and surrounding areas. She began a four-year term in January 2019.

Ms. Girtman received an associate degree from Suffolk Community College in 1984, a bachelor’s degree in business from SIU in 2006, and a master’s degree from St. Leo University in healthcare administration in 2009.
Employment
Ms. Girtman has been a licensed realtor since 2012 with several recognitions for her service and performance. She is a healthcare consultant and has a 30-year career in healthcare management roles. She also specializes in account management and contract negotiations.
Personal
Ms. Girtman was born in Long Island, New York. However, she has deep roots in DeLand from visiting her grandparents since the 1960s. She moved to DeLand in 1984 and has one son, two grandsons and a LabraDoodle.
She enjoys the arts and culture and the “live, work and play” atmosphere in West Volusia. She is relentlessly positive and seeks to inspire others to be the change they want to see. Ms. Girtman sows seeds of hope and faith to create a garden of unity throughout the community.
