The Department of Agriculture has acknowledged several cases of canine influenza virus have been found in dogs that attended two dog shows including one in DeLand. While the virus is highly contagious, most dogs recover at home without any complications and human have not been known to contract the illness. If you suspect a case of dog flu, please contact your veterinarian prior to going to the clinic to prevent the spread of the virus. Symptoms may include fever, decreased appetite and lethargy.

For more information on the canine influenza virus, the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine has put together a helpful fact sheet for pet owners.
