Volusia County Fire Rescue reminds residents: Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!™
Volusia County Fire Rescue is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” The campaign works to educate everyone about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.
“Most people don’t realize how fast a fire can spread,” said, Volusia County Fire Rescue Chief Howard Bailey. “From the time you hear the smoke alarm, you might only have one to two minutes to escape safely. Having a preparation and escape plan at home can make the difference of life or death.”
Escape planning and practice can help you make the most of the time you have, giving everyone enough time to get out. While NFPA and Volusia County Fire Rescue are focusing on home fires, these messages apply to virtually any location.
Volusia County Fire Rescue is planning an open house at many of its fire stations 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, in support of this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!”
