An interpretative panel will be unveiled at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Argosy Park, 1255 Ocean Shore Blvd., Ormond-by-the-Sea.
The county-owned beachfront park was named after the Argosy Motel, which was built on the property in 1953 and operated by the Clark family for 61 years. The panel, designed by Volusia County Public Historian Tom Baskett, highlights the memories of mom-and-pop motels along the Florida coastline, including the Argosy Motel.
Volusia County purchased the property in 2014 to expand off-beach parking and opened the lot in February 2019. The County Council chose to continue the Argosy name to accentuate the community’s rich coastal history.
