Trail ribbon cutting set for May 20
Posted On: May 17, 2021
The final 3.6-mile segment of the East Central Regional Rail Trail in southern Volusia County is now complete.
In conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation, the Volusia County Council will cut the ribbon at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at the Gobblers Lodge Trailhead, Gobblers Lodge Road, Osteen.
To RSVP for the event, contact Ashlyn Russell at 386-822-5062, ext. 12268, or arussell@volusia.org.
The new trail segment, which stretches from Guise Road to Gobblers Lodge Road, completes Volusia County’s portion of the developing regional Coast-to-Coast Trail (C2C) system. The C2C will connect communities through Central Florida from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.
The trail segment is also a component of the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop, which is a developing regional trail system that travels through Volusia, Flagler, Brevard, St. Johns and Putnam counties. It is also a component of the complementary route of the East Coast Greenway, which is a developing national trail system that will link communities along the eastern seaboard from Key West to Calais, Maine.
The trail was built with $5,272,877 in SUN Trail funds from the Florida Department of Transportation, and $313,209 in Volusia ECHO trail funds. The state acquired the Florida East Coast Railway property for $16 million using Florida Forever funds on Dec. 31, 2007. The contractors were Masci General Contractor, CPH and CDM Smith.
Limited parking will be available at the Gobblers Lodge Trailhead at the intersection of Osteen Maytown Road and Gobblers Lodge Road. Overflow parking and a shuttle will be available at Hickory Bluff Preserve.
The event will be live-streamed on the County of Volusia Facebook page.
