Volusia County’s Department of Public Protection will host a Backing-In Ceremony from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Volusia County Fire Rescue (VCFR) Station No. 14, 1716 Atlantic Ave., Ormond-by-the-Sea. The event celebrates the stationing of an advanced life support ambulance at the station from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day beginning Saturday, Dec. 14.
A static ambulance stationed in the North Peninsula is part of the comprehensive emergency medical service (EMS) service level update approved by the Volusia County Council on Feb. 5.
“The placement of an ambulance in the North Peninsula will further optimize the county’s EMS system by reducing response times for emergency calls on the barrier island,” said Joe Pozzo, Volusia County’s director of public protection. “It provides Ormond-by-the-Sea residents with a fixed-based EMS presence during the highest 12-hour peak time of need.”
The free event will also include an open house of the station.
