Daytona Beach Regional Library closes after attack

The Daytona Beach Regional Library will close for the rest of the week after an employee there was hospitalized following an attack by a man who walked into the facility Tuesday morning.
“This was such an unbelievably senseless and brutal act,” said Volusia County Manager George Recktenwald. “Our immediate concern is for the welfare of our employees – the victim herself as well as our other employees who were understandably shaken up by the incident.”
County officials visited the injured employee at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach and reported that she was doing well under the circumstances.
“She was in good spirits given what she has been through,” said Recktenwald. “We’re thankful that she’s in the very capable hands of the medical staff at Halifax and we know that she’s getting the very best of care.”
After leaving the hospital, county staff met with library employees to reassure them and help tend to their emotional needs. The Daytona Beach Police Department is in charge of the investigation and all questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Police Department.
The library is scheduled to reopen on Monday.
