Blue Spring Aquifer Recharge Project

Public meeting scheduled on wetland recharge project:

Volusia County and the cities of DeLand, Deltona, and Orange City will host an informational meeting on the Blue Spring Wetland Recharge Project from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 31st, at the Sanborn Center, 815 S. Alabama Ave., DeLand. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., and public participation is welcome.

The project will determine the feasibility for transforming an existing 60-acre burrow pit east of Blue Spring State Park into an aquifer recharge site to create a wetland ecosystem, improve water quality, and boost regional groundwater supplies. The borrow pit has been identified as a potential recharge site by the St. Johns River Water Management District and public water suppliers serving the West Volusia region.

Volusia Blue Spring has been designated as a first-magnitude outstanding Florida spring and a winter refuge for West Indian manatees.
