With federal authorization expiring soon, the deadlines to apply to Volusia County for COVID-19 financial assistance are rapidly approaching. The county urges small businesses and individuals who believe they qualify for Volusia CARES grants to make application soon, as these programs are coming to an end in December. The deadline to apply for small business, home-based business, nonprofit grants is Dec. 11. The deadline to apply for rent and mortgage assistance is Dec. 30.

FDEM testing is available at the City Gym, 1000 Live Oak St., New Smyrna Beach. The site is located behind the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library and is clearly marked with signage. The new site offers self-swab PCR testing and rapid antigen testing and operates from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week with a tentative end date of Jan. 31. The site will close Nov. 26 and 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday, Dec. 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday, and Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day.
Appointments are not required, but pre-registering does expedite the process; pre-register at bit.ly/C19rapidtest. There is no age requirement for self-swab PCR or rapid antigen testing. Identification is no longer required but does expedite the process. The site now requests insurance information from insured individuals, but patients will not be billed any copay or coinsurance, and those without insurance will be tested free of charge.
Rapid Antigen testing results are expected within 15 minutes. Individuals will be encouraged to first get a rapid test, and consider a PCR test if their results are negative but they are symptomatic. PCR testing results are expected within 2 - 5 days.

Volusia County has several other COVID-19 assistance programs available for residents.
