County announces service changes

WATER UTILITY
Effective March 13, Volusia County Water Utility suspended service disconnections for nonpayment and will not charge late fees until further notice.
DIVISION OF CORRECTIONS
The Volusia County Division of Corrections has suspended all onsite visitation at the Volusia County Branch Jail and Correctional Facility until further notice. This includes all professional visitors, including attorneys. Friends and family will still be able to visit using the remote off-site option. The division is implementing these measures as a precaution and has no known or suspected cases of COVID-19 at this time.
VETERANS SERVICES
Effective March 23, Veterans Services will begin scheduling appointments. Walk-ins will be provided with an appointment time. Clients seeking assistance may schedule an appointment by calling 386-254-4646 or 386-740-5102. The phone lines will be answered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Veterans can use these phone numbers to make appointments at all four office locations.
HUMAN SERVICES
Effective March 23, Human Services will schedule telephone or in-person appointments. The preference is for telephone appointments, unless the client requests an in-person appointment. Households seeking emergency financial assistance may schedule an appointment at any of the four Human Services offices by calling 386-239-7757. The phone line will be answered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments may be scheduled no further than Friday of the following week.
The maximum award amount for emergency utility and rental or mortgage assistance for households with a coronavirus hardship has increased. This hardship must be documented during your appointment. In addition, a client waiver form may be used to allow staff to complete applications on a household's behalf by telephone, meaning original signatures are not required. Copies of birth certificates, driver's license, Social Security cards, income documentation and other required documentation must still be submitted. A secure online portal will be established to accept this documentation as soon as possible.
