Volusia County EMS is proud to be an Advanced Life Support (ALS) system. This means that every ambulance is staffed and equipped to ALS levels, with at least one member of the medical team certified as a paramedic and trained in advanced life support. The basic care-trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are also part of the medical team, assisting the paramedics and providing CPR and other critical medical functions. Every day, Volusia County EMS operates dozens of advanced life support transport units staffed by one paramedic and one EMT. Our operations staff consists of 180 full-time and more than 60 part-time and intermittent EMTs and paramedics.
