Latest Information
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) has increased the available financial assistance for its Hurricane Restoration Reimbursement Grant Program, now offering 100% reimbursement for sand placement projects seaward of seawalls for homesteaded properties and condominiums. Additionally, the reimbursement limits for shoreline armament have been increased, allowing for greater financial assistance to those impacted by the 2022 hurricanes. Since the program's inception, over $19 million has been distributed to nearly 300 applicants in Volusia County. Residents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as only $30 million remains. 2024-2025 Volusia County Sand Placement Projects
Volusia County beaches recently lost more than 6.6 million cubic yards of sand due to Hurricane Ian, Hurricane Nicole, and numerous Nor’easter storm events. In response, Volusia County is embarking in two sand transfer and placement projects in 2024 and 2025 to assist in the recovery efforts for a significant portion of the beaches along our coastline.
The projects are funded by a Florida Department of Environmental Protection grant and are being conducted in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers (USACE) and the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND).
