Benefits
Permanent full-time and part-time employees are eligible for the following paid and voluntary benefits starting the first day of hire:
Paid Benefits
Long Term Disability
Long Term Disability benefit will pay 65 percent of your basic monthly salary to a maximum of $6,000 per month.
Basic Life Insurance/AD&D
Basic Life/AD&D are equal to the amount of your annual salary, rounded up to the nearest $1,000, subject to a $250,000 maximum.
Holidays
Volusia County observes ten holidays annually.
Personal Leave
Personal leave is a combination of sick and annual leave hours and is earned on a bi-weekly rate based upon the employee's length of service (approximately 28 days/year for new hires).
NOTE: Firefighters are entitled to accumulate annual and sick leave benefits.
Bereavement Leave
Employees, depending on work shifts may be eligible for paid bereavement leave if an immediate family member passes away.
Florida Retirement System (FRS)
FRS offers pension and investment benefit options. Employees automatically pay 3% toward their FRS account and the county pays a percentage depending on the position.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Employees have access to licensed professional counselors; online services including videos, articles, health assessments training courses, and more.
Workers' Compensation
Employees are covered by the Florida Workers' Compensation Law and are entitled to benefits for job-related illnesses/injuries.

Medical/Prescription Drug, Dental, and Vision Insurance
Eligible employees and their eligible dependents are offered these affordable benefits to best meet their health and wellness needs.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Employees can set aside up to $2,750 a year in a medical FSA to pay for covered items.
Supplemental Life Insurance
Employees may purchase supplemental life insurance coverage for eligible employees and their eligible dependents.
Short-Term Disability
Short Term Disability benefit pay 65 percent of your basic weekly salary to a maximum of $1,500 per week.
Cancer and Critical Illness
These insurance policies pay benefits, in addition to existing coverage, that can be used to help cover additional costs.
Deferred Compensation (457 Plan)
This plan allows employees to invest in mutual funds, variable annuities, savings accounts, and fixed annuities.
Wellness Programs
The Wellness Program includes activities such as: Fitness Centers, Lunch and Learn Programs, Annual Employee Health, Wellness and Benefits Fair, Blood Drives, Weight Loss Program, and many other health care events.
Wellness Incentives Dollars
Employees may earn wellness dollars up to $300 annually.
COBRA and Retiree Benefits
COBRA participants and retirees can continue their benefits after they leave county employment.
Computer Purchase Program
Employees may finance a personal computer through payroll deduction.
Tuition Reimbursement
Employees can improve their job-related skills through enrollment in courses offered by accredited educational institutions and may receive reimbursement for a portion of the course costs.
