Lifeguard Qualifications and Opportunities
We're hiring summer lifeguards!
Spend your summer in the sun! Starting pay is $19.00 per hour.
Those who wish to participate in the selection process must attend one of the 2026 tryouts listed below, as well as Volusia County Beach Safety's lifeguard recruit class (mandatory 48-hour ocean rescue training). Additionally, participants must attend a 44 hour Emergency Medical Responder class and CPR course or provide proof of equivalence. Applicants must be at least 16 years old on or before June 1 and be able to swim 500 meters freestyle in under 10 minutes, swim 50 yards freestyle in under 30 seconds, and run a half-mile in under 3 minutes, 15 seconds. Successful completion of the recruit class, background check, physical, and drug screening are conditions for hire.

- Saturday February 14 - Ormond YMCA 9 AM-12 PM
- Saturday February 21 - Port Orange YMCA 9 AM-12 PM
- Saturday February 28 - Ormond YMCA 9 AM-12 PM
- Saturday March 7 - Port Orange YMCA 9 AM-12 PM
2026 Recruit Classes
- 03/16 - 03/21 (must attend all)
- Day 1: Marine Terrace Resort, 1018 N. Atlantic Ave, Daytona Beach at 8 am
- Days 2-6: Beach Safety Headquarters at 8 am
- 04/11, 04/12, 04/18, 04/19, 04/25, 04/26 (must attend all)
- Day 1: Daytona State College Pool at 9 am
- Days 2-6: Beach Safety Headquarters at 8 am
2026 EMR Training
- 4/13, 4/15, 4/17, 4/20, 4/22, 4/24, 4/27, 4/29, 5/1 (must attend all)
- Beach Safety Headquarters, 5 pm - 10 pm
