Lifeguard Qualifications and Opportunities
We're hiring summer lifeguards!
Spend your summer in the sun! Starting pay is $19.00 per hour.
Those who wish to participate in the selection process must attend one of the 2025 tryouts listed below, as well as Volusia County Beach Safety's lifeguard recruit class (mandatory 48-hour ocean rescue training). Additionally, participants must attend a 44 hour Emergency Medical Responder class and CPR course or provide proof of equivalence. Applicants must be at least 16 years old on or before June 1 and be able to swim 500 meters freestyle in under 10 minutes, swim 50 yards freestyle in under 30 seconds, and run a half-mile in under 3 minutes, 15 seconds. Successful completion of the recruit class, background check, physical, and drug screening are conditions for hire.

- Saturday October 25 - Ormond YMCA 9 AM-12 PM
- Tuesday October 28 - Port Orange YMCA 6-8 PM
- Saturday November 1 - Port Orange YMCA 9 AM-12 PM
- Tuesday November 4 - Port Orange YMCA 6-8 PM
2025 Fall Recruit Class
- 11/15, 11/16, 11/22, 11/23, 12/06, 12/07 (must attend all)
- Day 1: Daytona State College at 8 am
- Days 2-6: Beach Safety Headquarters at 8 am
2025 EMR Training
- 12/13, 12/14, 12/20, 12/21, 01/03, 01/04 (must attend all)
- Beach Safety Headquarters, 8 am - 5pm
