Ribbon Cutting for New Trail Segment

Event Date(s)

Begins: September 9, 2026 9:00 am
Ends: September 9, 2026 9:30 am

Volusia County is inviting trail enthusiasts and bicyclists to celebrate its newest trail segment during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the intersection of West Highbanks Road and Donald E. Smith Boulevard, DeBary.

Volusia County Council members will celebrate alongside partners from the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop Alliance, SUN Trail, Florida Department of Transportation, and City of DeBary to celebrate closing this gap in the Spring-to-Spring Trail and the larger St. Johns River to Sea Loop. Parking will be available in the DeBary Elementary School student drop-off lane.

Before the ribbon falls, the St. Johns River to Sea Loop Alliance will kick off the celebration with two community bike rides beginning at 7:30 a.m. – one from Thornby Park, the other from Lake Beresford Park – both pedaling into the ribbon-cutting ceremony. For more information about the bike rides, visit https://river2sealoop.org/debary-ribbon-cutting-090926/.

The brand-new 1.3-mile paved segment runs along Donald E. Smith Boulevard from Highbanks Road north to DeBary Plantation Road. Volusia County oversaw construction of the $1.23 million project, which was funded by SUN Trail and the Florida Department of Transportation. Going forward, the City of DeBary will maintain the segment.

Once finished, the Spring-to-Spring Trail will stretch 27.2 miles from DeLeon Springs State Park to Green Springs Park – one link in the partially completed 260-mile St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop that winds through Volusia, Flagler, Brevard, St. Johns and Putnam counties.
