Emergency Medical Administration
The Emergency Medical Administration (EMA) division is organized under the county’s Department of Emergency Services. The division is responsible for the administrative components of the system and clinical oversight across the comprehensive emergency medical services system.
Administrative oversight
Administrative oversight includes:
- Managing the county’s state licensure
- All applicable state and federal registrations
- Compliance with the regulations promulgated by the Florida Department of Health
- Maintaining enrollment as a provider under the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
- Management of the single software platform used by all local government-provided EMS services
- Contract management with various partners
Clinical oversight
Clinical oversight is the responsibility of the medical director and deputy medical director. Among their many responsibilities, they:
- Credentialing all emergency medical technicians and paramedics within the county system
- Developing and maintaining clinically appropriate standing orders under which emergency medical technicians and paramedics render care
- Developing and maintaining a quality review process of patient assessment, care, and documentation
- Providing access to pharmaceuticals and legend devices
