Badlands has been returned to the sea following two months of treatment and rehabilitation at the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet. The 167-pound loggerhead sea turtle was brought to the center’s turtle hospital after he stranded in New Smyrna Beach with mild dehydration and an impacted gastrointestinal tract. Staff treated him with fluids, antibiotics, and vitamins and fed him a healthy diet of crabs and crustaceans, enabling him to pack on 11 pounds before his release.
