Volusia County Animal Services is helping residents keep their pets safe and healthy. Staff brings the mobile clinic to a different location once a month to provide free microchipping and low-cost vaccinations for cats and dogs.

The mobile clinic’s next stop is Chuck Lennon Park, 5000 Greenfield Dairy Road, DeLeon Springs, from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 5. Services will include microchipping and vaccinations for rabies, distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, parvo, feline viral rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus, and feline panleukopenia).

Microchipping offers pet owners peace of mind by providing a reliable means of identification. About the size of a grain of rice, the microchips are implanted just under the skin. With the wave of a hand-held wand, Animal Services staff, veterinarians and firefighters can access the owner’s name and contact information.

“Microchipping is the best way to ensure that your pets find their way back home,” said Animal Services Director Angela Miedema. “Offering this service free of charge is a huge opportunity for our community and our pets. We have already seen so many happy reunions, and we want to see that number  grow. Microchips are the perfect way to do that.”

Services are available for Volusia County residents on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are not required. Pet owners must provide identification to verify residency and are encouraged to arrive early to secure their spot. Vaccinations will cost $10. Microchipping is free for dogs and domestic cats.
