Advisory: Exercise Caution Due to Rip Currents
Posted On: July 3, 2024
Volusia County officials are urging beachgoers to exercise caution due to rip currents. Persons who enter the ocean should always swim in front of staffed lifeguard towers and not venture deeper than waist-high water, especially for small children and those unfamiliar with ocean swimming.
If caught in a rip current, do not panic. Swim parallel to the shore until out of the current, then head back to land. If unable to reach the shore, signal for help immediately.
If you witness someone struggling in the water, call 911 immediately. Download the Volusia Beaches app for information on staffed lifeguard tower locations and beach and weather conditions.
