Volusia EMS Shines During Pediatric Emergency Simulation
Posted On: September 27, 2024

The first responders from Volusia County EMS and Daytona Beach Fire Department recently took part in a crucial pediatric emergency response simulation hosted by Halifax Health and Arnold Palmer Hospital, the closest pediatric trauma center to our area.
Using advanced simulation manikins that breathe, respond to questions, and exhibit rapidly changing vital signs, our teams honed their skills in rapid triage and life-saving interventions.
The exercise involved multiple pediatric patients as manikins, in which triage, treatment and transport were simulated by the participating providers. The drill focused on the rapid assessment and treatment of severe injury, as well as the transfer to a higher level of care for the appropriate patients. A formal exercise debriefing was conducted that assessed opportunities for all participants and agencies, all in an effort to optimize the delivery of care for the severely injured patient.
