Get Back to Nature at Lyonia Environmental Center
Posted On: January 7, 2025
Get back to nature at Lyonia Environmental Center (LEC), where learning comes naturally! Environmental specialists are always on hand to take you through the center, where you can learn about Volusia County's fragile ecosystems through hands-on displays and computer modules.
Visitors of all ages can see how sinkholes are formed, learn how gopher tortoises stay cool, and hear the sounds of a manatee. They can also view a 425-gallon aquarium and meet a variety of native animal ambassadors.
Staff also offers programs for scouts and homeschoolers, school field trips, summer and winter break camps, and the annual Wildlife Festival.
LEC is the gateway to Lyonia Preserve, a 360-acre scrub habitat that provides a home for dozens of threatened Florida scrub jays and gopher tortoises. Visitors can walk along three nature trails, have lunch in the pavilion, and experience the Florida scrub habitat.
Plan your visit at www.volusia.org/lec. Admission is always free! LEC is open every day but Monday at 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona. Hours are:
- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday
- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
