Volusia County Stands Ready to Help Veterans Apply for Benefits

Posted On: August 5, 2025

For too many veterans, accessing hard-earned benefits feels like navigating a battlefield. Volusia County's Veterans Services Division eliminates that struggle, deploying expert advocates at four convenient locations to ensure every veteran secures the compensation and services they've rightfully earned through their sacrifice.

The division's trained and accredited veterans service officers serve as dedicated champions for former and current Armed Forces members and their families. Certified annually by the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, these experienced professionals understand the VA system's complexities and fight to maximize every veteran's benefits – completely free of charge.

"Our veterans gave everything for our freedom," said Veterans Services Director Scott Olson. "Helping them access their earned benefits isn't just our job – it's our honor. No veteran should face this process alone.”

One-on-One Benefits Assistance

Each veteran receives individualized attention through confidential consultations. Officers conduct thorough assessments of military service and current needs, identify all potential benefits, prepare and submit applications, and provide ongoing support throughout the entire claims process.

Veterans service officers provide expert guidance on critical benefits including:

  • Disability compensation claims
  • Veterans pension benefits
  • Vocational rehabilitation and employment
  • Dependency and indemnity compensation
  • Educational benefits
  • Special monthly compensation

The division's personalized approach ensures veterans understand their rights and receive maximum compensation for their service-connected conditions and family circumstances.

“Our veterans services officers are veterans themselves and understand the process and the complexity of navigating the system,” Olson noted. “They can relate to the veterans coming into our offices.”
