Posted On: February 5, 2026

Get ready to meet some of Florida's most fascinating wild residents! Lyonia Environmental Center will host its annual Wildlife Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, offering a free, family-friendly celebration of the unique wildlife and natural environments that make Volusia County special.

The day promises something for everyone – from getting up close with live bats and alligators to exploring the preserve's scenic trails and discovering what makes Florida's ecosystems so remarkable. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a fun weekend outing with the family, the festival provides an engaging way to connect with the natural world right here in Volusia County.

Visitors can explore interactive environmental exhibits, enjoy guided hikes through Lyonia Preserve, and take eco-buggy tours to see the landscape from a different perspective. For early risers, a special guided hike kicks off the day at 9 a.m. Food trucks will be on site throughout the event.

Wildlife Takes Center Stage

The festival's wildlife presentations offer rare opportunities to meet incredible creatures and the experts who work with them:

  • 10 a.m. – Florida Bat Conservancy separates fact from fiction in "Bat Myths and Truths Revealed," featuring live bats
  • 11 a.m. – Marine Science Center showcases magnificent birds of prey, including owls, hawks and other raptors
  • Noon – Wildlife Corridor Presentation explores how these natural pathways help animals thrive
  • 1 p.m. – Gatorland brings an alligator and other native animals for an unforgettable close encounter

Beyond the main stage, the festival features environmental and community exhibitors, native plants for sale, and displays from local nature-focused attractions. A dedicated children's area keeps younger guests entertained with games, crafts and face painting.

The Wildlife Festival reflects the County's commitment to environmental education and conservation while creating memorable experiences for residents of all ages.
