Check Out a Blood Pressure Kit at Your Local Library
Posted On: February 19, 2026
As communities across the country recognize American Heart Month, Volusia County Public Library is highlighting its ongoing partnership with the American Heart Association that allows library users to borrow blood pressure monitoring kits for home use - just like checking out a book. A Volusia County Public Library card is required for checkout at all 14 branch locations.
Each kit includes a blood pressure monitor, American Heart Association–guided materials on how to properly measure blood pressure at home, an explanation of what blood pressure numbers mean, and a list of local health care providers available to answer questions. The kits are part of the American Heart Association’s Libraries with Heart Initiative, which launched in September 2025 and continues to support community health throughout the year across Volusia County.
Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure, which can lead to heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, vision loss, and more. These poor health outcomes can often be avoided if hypertension is properly managed. Unfortunately, many people don’t know they have high blood pressure, and access to a blood pressure monitor may be limited due to cost or availability. The Libraries with Heart Initiative aims to improve local health outcomes by making these resources freely available to those who need them.
