Veterans Services Presents Two Special Events This Month

Posted On: March 6, 2026

Volusia County's Veterans Services Division is honoring those who served with two meaningful events in March – and employees are encouraged to attend both.

Veterans Stand Down | March 20-21

alt textThe annual Veterans Stand Down returns from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, at The Center at Deltona, 1640 Dr. MLK Blvd. The two-day event connects veterans and their families with essential resources – all free of charge – including clothing and food giveaways, employment assistance, free haircuts, health screenings, and help with VA claims and homelessness.

A highlight this year: The Veterans Benefits Administration will bring its Mobile Compensation and Pension Exam Unit on-site, allowing veterans with pending claims to complete their medical exams and potentially receive faster decisions.

Traveling replicas of the Vietnam Memorial Wall and the Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance will be displayed outside the center from 3 p.m. March 19 through 2 p.m. March 21. The public is welcome to view the walls without attending the Stand Down. To volunteer or learn about sponsorship opportunities, visit www.volusia.org/standdown.

Vietnam Memorial Wall Unveiling | March 27

alt textLater in the month, Volusia County will unveil a permanent Vietnam Memorial Wall at 10 a.m. Friday, March 27, at Veterans Memorial Plaza, 125 W. Orange Ave., Daytona Beach.

The gray granite monument – 5 feet high and 8.5 feet wide – will stand against a backdrop of the Halifax River. A black granite panel, etched with scenes from the Vietnam Memorial and Vietnam Women's Memorial in Washington, D.C., will document the war and those who served, were lost, or came home. Inscribed on the panel are the words, "To All the Vietnam Veterans/Thank You and Welcome Home."

The monument was made possible through a $35,000 donation from Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1048. Parking will be available at the Steven C. Henderson Judicial Center.
