Working Smarter: Information Technology Brings AI to the Workplace
Posted On: March 9, 2026
Artificial intelligence is no longer just a buzzword – it's a practical tool helping government employees work more efficiently, and Volusia County is making it available to you.
The County has secured a contract with Claude.ai, one of the leading AI assistant platforms, giving employees access to a powerful tool that can help with a wide range of everyday tasks – at no cost to you. To get started, employees must first register through the Information Technology Division.
What Can Claude Do for You?
Think of Claude as a knowledgeable colleague available around the clock. Whether you're staring at a blank screen or buried under a complex project, AI can help you move forward. Common workplace uses include:
- Drafting and editing – Generate first drafts of emails, reports, memos, or presentations, then refine them to match your voice and needs.
- Research and summarizing – Quickly pull together background information or condense lengthy documents into clear, concise summaries.
- Brainstorming – Break through creative blocks by generating ideas, outlines, or alternative approaches to a problem.
- Data and analysis support – Get help interpreting information, structuring spreadsheets, or thinking through complex workflows.
- Answering questions – Claude can explain policies, procedures, technical concepts, or unfamiliar topics in plain language.
A Few Important Reminders
AI is a tool, not a replacement for professional judgment. Employees should always review AI-generated content for accuracy before using it in official communications or documents.
Additionally, never enter sensitive, confidential, or personally identifiable information into any AI platform. When in doubt, check with your supervisor or the IT Division.
How to Get Access
Ready to give it a try? Contact the IT Division to register for your Claude.ai account. Once you're set up, you'll find a user-friendly interface that requires no technical background — just type your question or request and let the AI go to work.
Volusia County is committed to equipping its workforce with modern tools that support efficiency, innovation, and excellent public service. Embracing AI is one more way we're investing in the people who make this county run.
