Five County Council members recognized by Florida Association of Counties

Posted On: June 12, 2020

Five members of the Volusia County Council have been honored by the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) for their advocacy during the 2020 state Legislative session.

The five – Deb Denys, Barb Girtman, Ed Kelley, Heather Post and Billie Wheeler – were among 130 county council and commission members around the state who were recognized by FAC as presidential advocates for their work during the annual session of the Florida Legislature that ended in March. The recognitions, which were announced during the association’s annual business meeting that was held in a virtual format on Friday, are designed to honor county council and commission members who exhibit leadership in helping to advance FAC’s legislative agenda on behalf of Florida’s 67 counties.

“It’s our duty as commissioners to stand up for our community, to fight to preserve the unique aspects of where we live, work, and play,” said FAC Immediate Past President and Leon County Commissioner, Nick Maddox. “This responsibility is only heightened during the Legislative Session where hundreds of bills are heard that directly impact that quality of life.”

The FAC has represented the diverse interests of Florida’s counties for 85 years by promoting advocacy, education and collaboration.
